Hello and welcome to the very first post on our brand new blog. We’re so glad you’re here.
We are KMP Carpentry & Joinery, a family-run workshop based in Cambridgeshire, specialising in bespoke joinery, custom carpentry and CNC machining. Led by Karl, our founder and master carpenter with over 45 years of hands-on experience, we create a range of bespoke projects for homes and businesses. From handcrafted oak porches and fitted furniture to detailed engraving commissions, we’ve worked on projects of all sizes and styles.
But today, we want to do more than show you the finished product. We’d love to share the story behind our business, introduce the people behind the tools and reveal our exciting new project with you for the first time.
Where It All Began…
Karl began his carpentry journey at just 16 years old. He trained through traditional apprenticeships, worked for many years on-site and developed a deep respect for handcrafted joinery and custom carpentry projects that last. Once his children came along and after gaining years of experience working for others, Karl decided it was time to build something of his own. And so, KMP Carpentry & Joinery was born.
It all started with a van, a handful of tools and that first client who put their trust in him. The rest, as they say, is history.
Where We Are Now
Fast forward to today, and KMP is still proudly family-run. Karl now works alongside his son, Bryn, and daughter, Cerys who are helping to take KMP to the next step.
Behind the scenes, we’ve been busy launching this brand new website and preparing to open our online shop, offering personalised wooden gifts handmade here in Cambridgeshire. Each piece will be designed, crafted and finished in our workshop using the same precision and care as our joinery projects.
Of course, while that exciting new venture is coming together, we’re still hard at work on bespoke carpentry and joinery services for clients across Cambridgeshire. Recent projects include custom-built garages, stylish dog gates, fitted media walls and one-of-a-kind CNC gift commissions. No two jobs are the same, and that’s exactly how we like it. Meet Cerys: Behind the Brand
This blog is also part of our new chapter. I’m Cerys, and I’ve recently joined as our Marketing, Brand and Content Strategist here at our family-run joinery business. My goal is to help bring our story to life online, connect with others who value skilled craftsmanship and share updates, tips and inspiration from the products and projects we are incredibly proud of.
What to Expect Here
Think of the KMP Journal as a peek behind the curtain. We will be sharing insights from our Cambridgeshire workshop, joinery tips and behind-the-scenes woodworking stories. Once our shop is live, plenty of gift and styling ideas will be shared here too. We want this space to be personal, honest and hopefully a little inspiring!
