Hello and welcome to the very first post on our blog. We are so glad you are here.

We are KMP Carpentry and Joinery, a family-run workshop based in Cambridgeshire. We specialise in bespoke residential joinery, commercial carpentry, timber frame construction and CNC machining. Led by Karl, our founder and master carpenter with over 45 years of hands-on experience, we work on projects of all sizes and styles for homes and businesses across Cambridgeshire. From handcrafted oak porches and fitted furniture to commercial fit-outs and detailed CNC engraving commissions, no two jobs are ever the same.

Today though, we want to do more than show you finished projects. We would love to share the story behind the business and introduce the people behind the tools.

Where It All Began

Karl began his carpentry journey at just 16 years old. He trained through traditional apprenticeships, worked for many years on site and developed a deep respect for handcrafted joinery that lasts. Once his children came along and after years of experience working for others, Karl decided it was time to build something of his own. So, KMP Carpentry and Joinery was born.

It all started with a van, a handful of tools and that first client who put their trust in him. The rest, as they say, is history.

Where We Are Now

Fast forward to today and KMP is still proudly family-run. Karl now works alongside his son Bryn and daughter Cerys, who are both helping to take the business forward in their own ways.

Bryn runs the CNC machining side of the workshop, combining precision technology with traditional joinery knowledge to produce everything from bespoke timber components to custom wooden signs and engravings. Meanwhile, Karl continues to lead on the hands-on joinery and carpentry work that KMP has always been known for.

On the residential side, recent projects have included custom-built garages, bespoke media walls, fitted storage and handcrafted oak porches. On the commercial side, we have been delivering shop fit-outs and commercial joinery installations for businesses across Cambridgeshire. Meet Cerys: Behind the Brand

This blog is also part of our next chapter. I am Cerys, and I joined the business as our Marketing and Content lead to help bring our story to life online, connect with people who value skilled craftsmanship and share updates and inspiration from the projects we are proud of.
