Bespoke Garden Room with Bar in March, Cambridgeshire
Full Build and Joinery Fit-Out, Designed and Delivered by KMP
We built this bespoke garden room from scratch for a home in March, Cambridgeshire. We acted as main contractor throughout, taking the project from groundwork all the way through to the finished interior. The space measures 5.2m by 2.7m and works as a bar, a lounge and a social space. So, the client got one point of contact from start to finish and a finished space that felt cohesive.

The Structure and Exterior
We built the garden room on a solid base using a timber frame with featheredge cladding on the outside. It is contemporary and sits naturally in the garden. For the entrance, we designed and fitted a set of glass patio doors that open on the front and the side. These connect the room to the patio and make the space feel much bigger than it is.
The roof is a flat design with a slight pitch for drainage, finished in dark membrane that ties in with the grey door frames. Overall, it is a well-proportioned timber garden room structure.

Bespoke Drinks Cabinet
The main feature on the bar wall is a full-length bespoke drinks cabinet. It runs the full width of the wall and combines open glass shelving above for displaying bottles and glassware with solid shaker-style cupboard doors below for storage. There is also a drinks fridge integrated into the lower section. So, everything a home bar needs is in one place.
We lit the glass shelving from within. As a result, the cabinet has a warm glow in the evening that makes the glassware a proper feature rather than just storage.

Oak Feature Wall and Bar Area
Behind the bar, we clad the wall in solid oak boards laid horizontally. The natural grain and character of the timber brings a lot of warmth to the space. It also works as a strong backdrop for the pendant lighting overhead, which sits on a solid oak beam we made and suspended from the ceiling.
In the evening, the oak wall, the warm Edison bulbs and the lit cabinet combine to give the room a really good atmosphere. Coming out from the wall, we also built a solid oak bar with shelving behind for additional storage. The oak worktop has a natural edge and real character to it. Together, the cabinet and the bar create a garden room bar area that feels elevated and perfect for hosting.

Fitted Shelving Unit
On the opposite wall, we built a fitted shelving unit in a soft sage green. Open shelving sits above shaker doors, giving the room both display space and practical storage. The painted finish ties into the green tones used throughout the interior. This garden room fitted furniture is one of those details that makes a real difference. In addition, it keeps the room tidy and usable day to day rather than just looking good in photos.

Flooring
We laid engineered oak flooring throughout the garden room. It is warm underfoot and durable. The lighter oak tone also balances the feature wall and painted units, keeping the room feeling bright even on dull days.

Acting as Main Contractor
We managed every stage of this project. First, we handled the groundwork and timber frame structure. Then, we moved through to the interior joinery fit-out and final finishes. Throughout, our client had one point of contact and a build that moved forward in a clear, organised way.
As main contractor for this garden room in Cambridgeshire, our role was to make the whole process straightforward. For anyone who wants a garden room built and fitted properly without managing multiple contractors themselves, this is exactly the kind of project we enjoy taking on.
