A Family-Run Workshop Built on Traditional Craftsmanship

KMP Carpentry & Joinery is a family-run joinery company based in Cambridgeshire, specialising in bespoke carpentry for homes, commercial joinery and fit-outs, timber frame construction and CNC machining. What matters to us is simple: doing things properly, being honest with our customers and taking pride in our work. From one-off home projects to larger commercial commissions, we approach every job with the same care, planning and attention to detail.

Our Story

KMP began with Karl. Karl started his carpentry and joinery career at 16 through a local apprenticeship in St Ives. He completed three years in craft carpentry and joinery, followed by advanced craft and craft machining — all City & Guilds trained.

He stayed with the same joinery company for 16 years. During that time, he worked across every part of the business, starting on the shop floor making and fitting, then moving into sales, estimating and project management. He measured on site, worked on bills of quantities, and managed jobs from the first conversation through to completion.

Running his own business was always in the back of his mind. When his children came along, that idea became a reality. He bought a van, took on his first job, and built KMP from the ground up.

What started as a one-person workshop has grown steadily into a respected local joinery business, built on the same principles Karl learned at 16: true craftsmanship, reliability, and pride in your work.

Where We Are Today

Today, Karl works alongside his children and KMP is very much a family business. We deliver residential joinery, commercial interiors, structural timber projects and CNC machining from our Cambridgeshire workshop. While the business has grown considerably since Karl started alone, the approach remains the same: careful planning, honest advice and workmanship we’re proud to stand behind.

By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern manufacturing methods, we’re able to support everything from bespoke fitted furniture and media walls through to commercial fit-outs, structural timber builds and precision-machined components.

As we continue to grow, our focus remains on delivering quality work, building long-term relationships and investing in the future of the business for the next generation.
