Tool Shop Fit-Out Project in March, Cambridgeshire

Commercial Shop Refurbishment

We completed a full shop fit-out for a tool retailer in March, Cambridgeshire. The project focused on creating a practical, hard-wearing retail space that would support day-to-day trade from the moment the doors opened. With a fixed opening date in place, the work was carefully planned and delivered to schedule. We ensured the shop was fully fitted out and ready for use without compromising on build quality.

Shop Front Installation

The project began with the installation of a new timber shop front, designed to work securely alongside the roller shutter system. The framework was built on site to ensure a precise fit, followed by the installation of plywood panelling and framed window sections.

A well-built shop front sets the tone for the rest of the space, so the focus here was on strong detailing, longevity and a straightforward, professional look.

Retail Counters & Slat Display Wall

Inside the shop, we built and installed bespoke retail counters using MDF with durable laminate worktops. We designed each counter to handle heavy commercial use. Each counter included built-in storage to keep tools and stock organised, with enough working space for two staff members during busy periods.

To support flexible merchandising, we also installed a fixed slat wall display system. This allows products to be easily rearranged while keeping the layout clean and easy to navigate.

Together, these elements create a shop layout that works efficiently for both staff and customers.

Mezzanine Floor & Staircase Installation

To make better use of the available space, we constructed a mezzanine floor using structural timber joists and chipboard decking, creating a stable upper level.

A timber staircase was then built on site to the layout, providing safe and practical access without taking up unnecessary floor space.

This addition significantly increased usable space within the shop, without the need for structural expansion.

Working to a Fixed Deadline

Projects like this rely on clear planning and steady progress. With a set opening date in place, each stage of the fit-out was carried out in sequence to keep everything on track.

By keeping the build organised and methodical, the full shop refurbishment was completed on time, allowing the business to open as planned.

I have used KMP services on many occasions over the last twenty years. I have used them for work on both my business premises and home. They are very professional in their approach and their knowledge is vast. I would definitely recommend them, as they are 100% trustworthy, I just give them my keys and walk away, knowing that my place will be clean, tidy and safe when I return.
