Bespoke Media Wall with Fireplace in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire
Turning a Blank Wall into a Feature for Everyday Living
We designed and installed this bespoke media wall with fireplace for a home in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire. The clients wanted to transform a plain wall into a focal point for relaxing and entertaining. They also wanted practical storage and a room that felt more complete. They already had a clear vision for the space, so we refined the design to balance the television, fireplace, storage and existing air conditioning unit. As a result, the finished media wall combines clean plastered finishes with solid oak joinery, integrated LED lighting and discreet storage that complements the rest of the room.

The Brief
Before we started, the room featured little more than a blank wall and a wall-mounted air conditioning unit. The television had no dedicated space, there was very little built-in storage and the room lacked a real focal point.
The biggest challenge was designing a bespoke media wall around the existing air conditioning unit. At the same time, we needed to install the electric fireplace safely and position the television at the correct viewing height without compromising the overall design.

Our Approach
Rather than following a standard design, we refined the client’s ideas to suit both the room and the way they planned to use it.
The finished layout included:
- Built-in television recess
- Integrated electric fireplace
- Oak shelving with LED lighting
- Decorative oak slatted panels
- Concealed storage cupboards
- Ride-and-hide hinges for a clean, flush finish
We carefully positioned every element to create a balanced design while keeping the media wall practical for everyday use.

The Installation
Creating a bespoke media wall starts long before the finishing touches. We built the framework using timber and non-combustible metal studwork where required around the fireplace. From the outset, we planned the cable routes, ventilation and fixing points so everything could be hidden neatly behind the finished wall. We also installed fire-rated boards around the fireplace to create a safe installation while maintaining the clean appearance the clients wanted.
To soften the crisp white finish, we added solid oak shelving, slatted feature panels and bespoke cupboard doors. The natural oak adds warmth and creates a striking contrast against the plastered wall. Meanwhile, the integrated LED lighting highlights the shelving and creates a welcoming atmosphere during the evening. Inside the lower cupboards, ride-and-hide hinges allow the doors to open fully while maintaining a clean, minimalist appearance when closed.

The Finished Result
What began as a plain wall has become one of the standout features of the home.
The television, fireplace, storage and lighting now work together as one built-in feature that feels like it has always belonged in the room. In addition, the media wall provides valuable concealed storage and display shelving, making it just as practical as it is attractive.
What the Client Said
“We were looking for a local tradesperson to install a media wall and were fortunate to receive a great word-of-mouth recommendation for KMP. Karl was friendly, approachable, and really listened to what we wanted, adding ideas from his own experience. Communication was brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and we trusted them in our home. We’re so happy with the result that we’ve already had them back for more work.“
