We designed and handcrafted this set of bespoke oak dog gates to perfectly complement the client’s home interior. Each gate combines functional design with timeless style, blending traditional joinery craftsmanship and modern detailing. This project demonstrates how a practical feature like a pet gate can also become an elegant addition to your home décor.
Preparation & Bespoke Joinery
We started with rough-sawn timber and shaped it in our workshop until it reached the exact dimensions needed for each gate. Using traditional mortise and tenon joinery, we built a strong and long-lasting frames. Two of the gates include oak-veneered MDF panels topped with solid oak rails to match the home’s existing interior. The result is a consistent, high-quality finish that complements the property’s design.
Glass Integration & Detailing
For the stair gate, we added a custom toughened glass panel secured with polished chrome clamps. This choice brings in light and maintains a sense of openness while keeping the gate safe and sturdy. The contrast between natural oak and glass gives a modern, refined look, showing how bespoke carpentry can balance practicality and contemporary aesthetics.
Installation & Finishing Touches
We installed each gate on solid oak posts for added strength and a consistent look. We chose polished chrome hinges and sliding bolts to match the home’s existing hardware and ensure smooth function. The result is a set of polished, handcrafted internal dog gates that offer both practicality and high-quality craftsmanship.
